First Day with a D-SLR

Thanks to receiving our interest-free loan repayment from the federal government, we were able to purchase our first digital SLR camera. After much deliberation, we went with Canon’s EOS Rebel XSi, which included the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens. We also splurged and got the beautiful 50mm f/1.4 USM lens. Below are pictures from our first day with a D-SLR straight from the camera: unedited, uncropped, and unprocessed. As you can see, we have much to learn about photography and our new machine, but we are looking forward to it! Click to enlarge the photos (they’ll probably look better enlarged).

The first (acceptable) picture with the new camera. (Sorry, Alex, the actual first one was garbage: dark with lots of camera shake. It’s also been deleted.)

Niko didn’t mind getting her picture taken.

Merlot, on the other hand, would barely sit still.

Elizabeth’s first shot was better than mine (except for the goofy subject).

This one’s better. Disclaimer: Blogger tends to make bright pictures washed-out.

“Playing trains.” I want to wake up in the city that doesn’t sleep.

  1. Very nice. I also love this new element to "token lines". Maybe some day a picture of the EKL trophy will grace the blog. I guess you have to win it first.
