Why You Should Pay Less Attention to the News

In case you needed some more convincing to lessen your news/information intake, here are some actual “news” headlines (as opposed to entertainment, sports, or other headlines) from some of the world’s top media outlets over the last couple weeks. Talk about inane. Why do we need to know this stuff? How are people actually getting paid to “report” this garbage?

Pool drain rescue shows danger remains (ABC)
Why the wrinkle-faced bat has such a strong bite (BBC)
Self-proclaimed ex: Jon on “Bachelor Romp” (CBS)
$250k Lamborghini a lemon, judge says (CNN)
100 year old beaten, robbed of $30 (Drudge)
Bags of dead pets found near Fla. runway (Fox)

  1. no links??? how am i supposed to take ribbit safely to the vet? and what about the dissappearing honey bees?!?! and how does someone beat up a 100 year old????!?!?!?! i need more news in my life.

  2. I've never had a pat answer to the "If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be?" question. Neil Postman may very well be my number one choice. Thanks for bringing him into my life.

  3. What are your sources for news? Fox news has actually been doing a great job of reporting on some important stuff that's going on. For example, the Health Care Reform Bill. There is a lot of junk news out there, but it doesn't mean we should pay less attention to the news. We should pay less attention to the junk and focus our attention on the important stuff that affects all of us. Obama's administration is systematically dismantling a lot of freedom's we take for granted including freedom of speech and freedom of the press. To simply say we should pay less attention to news because of the junk is irresponsible I think. We need to be well informed and pray and act accordingly.
