The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock

I’ve been singing the children’s song “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock” lately, mainly because we have a tropical storm heading our way. Hannah is predicted to hit us Saturday morning, bringing heavy rain and wind with her. Virginia Beach and the rest of Hampton Roads is under a Tropical Storm Warning, which, honestly, is kind of exciting.

It doesn’t look to be that serious of a storm, especially because it’s moving pretty fast. Because of its fast moving nature, and unlikelihood of increasing to a hurricane, Hannah shouldn’t do too much damage. Even so, we’re preparing by making sure we have supplies, moving our outdoor furniture and grill into the garage, not parking under any trees, and confirming our emergency contacts. Other than that, my wife and I are pretty excited for this storm. It should be kind of fun. It’s hard to explain, but I guess we are tapping into our adventuresome side. Who knows, when the power goes out, we might just sit around with our candles and sing this children’s song.

The wise man built his house upon the rock…
And the rain came tumbling down.
The rain came down and the floods came up…
And the wise man’s house stood firm.

The foolish man built his house upon the sand…
And the rain came tumbling down.
The rain came down and the floods came up…
And the foolish man’s house went “SPLAT!”

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ…
And the blessings will come down.
The blessings will come down as your prayers go up…
So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. yay! i love big storms…although this is bigger than the big storms i have experienced in my life. haha…anyhow…it should be cool! we will be praying for your safety. p.s. i think it’s “hanna”

  2. Neglecting that I was glad to be able to decline ‘Hurricane Insurance’ on the house, I have always been a little disappointed that just about any hurricane that makes it up to Jersey is as dangerous as a garden hose. Have fun!
